Good evening r/acting. I am trying to get 5 good, contrasting, Shakespearean monologues of 2 mins or less in length, as a personal project and to help with future auditions. Aaron's monologues are fantastic for an evil, brutish audition piece, which contrasts wonderfully with some of my other pieces, and many of them c…

When you first join, you're prompted to enter all the things you like (songs, movies, artists, brands, foods, people, books, hobbies, products, bands, actors, websites, apps, games, *whatever*). The app then broadly finds other users with similar lists and returns items on their lists that aren't on yours. You can then…

I'm taking the first steps to hopefully launching an acting career but I a very little idea of what to be doing first. I'm living in Vancouver, but I don't have a reel/headshot/resume yet. I'm taking an intro acting class in October and am saving for a headshot as well as planning to perhaps film a demo reel of myself…

idk if it'll be the same for you but I was at an audition yesterday (first time at this casting office) and someone next to me who was reading for another role was an Emmy nominee! and it was just really nice seeing that even they were right here next to me, anxious and stressed and hoping to see a dog so they'll be le…

Today my university posted the cast list for their upcoming production of West Side Story and a white girl was cast as Maria, even though three Latinx girls auditioned. One was cast as Anita, one cast as Maria’s understudy, and the third is in the ensemble. The entire school is in an uproar and normally I would be too…

I was offered to do BG for a short film that does pay. Should I do this in hopes of networking or not bother? I do get a share of the film if it ever gets sold or wins an award. This is a special contract given to low budget films by my union. I've done these before. I don't get to talk to the main cast. I'm mostly net…

What’s up Reddit family!! I’m an actor and writer in NY. I took a nice amount of time off from performing to tend to family as well as myself. I’m so blessed to have a great family that supported me through my hard times, and gave me the confidence again to be who I am, and never let society dictate what I can do with…

I have the opportunity to audition for Dorothy in a nonmusical version of the Wizard of Oz, and I'm looking for some advice or words of wisdom. I really don't want to be carbon copy of Judy Garland's Dorothy, as I know I need to stand out somehow and make it my own, so I've been going through some of Dorothy's monologu…

Small piece of advice, for whatever it counts coming from a nobody director. I just posted casting calls yesterday for a project. It’s the lead role in a mystery. In the first hour I had 200 submissions, and a little more than 16 hours later I have 450, and that’s just on one website. Easily half of the submissions don…

Hello, So I'm not entirely sure how to word this but I'm curious as to how my fellow actors react to being cast in a role they did not intend for. I recently auditioned for a play and was cast as a supporting character. Please do not take this the wrong way, as I intend on giving my director the best of my performance…

Hi all, Probably not a unique question, but I can't seem to find a solid answer that already exists. I work full time in a corporate role, recently graduated uni. A question on diversity. I havr been talking to few friends I met. Some of them have told me thatvthey tend to get roles for small parts because of their type. I had a long long debate with my acting friend. She said that good acting is just about being present and connected. My line of thought is, good acting is what is seen through the camera. If not, which schools are teaching something different? My place is behind the scenes, writing/directing/cinematography, but to be perfectly honest I do not like modern realist styles, which are all rooted in method acting and ultimately in Stanislavski’s theories.
