Pick the Holding Page That Matches Your Brand
Coming soon is now a setting rather than a mode you get stuck in. Choose the design, write the text, switch it on, and switch it off when you are ready.
What the control does
- Choose a design from the available holding pages, including the two in two new coming soon pages.
- Write your own text. Heading, one line underneath, and the contact route.
- Preview the real site while visitors see the holding page, so you can work on it live without publishing it.
- One switch to go live. No republishing, no waiting.
The preview part is the useful one
Previously the only way to see your work in progress was to make it public. So people either published something unfinished or built the whole thing blind and hoped.
Now you see the real site when logged in and everybody else sees the holding page. You can spend three weeks getting it right with nobody watching.
Search engines and holding pages
A holding page is indexed like any other page, so it will be what appears in search results for your name while it is up. Two consequences.
First, put your name and your market in the text. "Coming soon" indexes as nothing.
Second, do not leave it up for a year. Search engines take a while to reassess a site after it changes, so a long holding period costs you time you then have to earn back. Details in per-page SEO titles and descriptions.
Using it after launch
Occasionally legitimate. Taking a site down for a rebuild, stepping back from the industry for a period, or a privacy reason. In all of those the holding page is much better than deleting the site, because the address keeps working and anything already linked to it does not break.
