A Clearer Path From Empty Website to Finished Website
The setup checklist on a new free actor website has been rewritten. Fewer steps, in a defensible order, with a clear finish line.
What was wrong with the old one
It listed everything the platform could do, in the order the features had been built. So somebody five minutes into their first site was being asked about analytics before they had uploaded a photograph.
The result was predictable. People completed the first three items, which were easy and unimportant, and abandoned the site with no reel and no contact details. A checklist that leads people to the wrong finish line is worse than none.
The order now
- Your name and headshot. Without these there is nothing.
- A reel or a video. The thing casting came for. See putting your reel front and center.
- Contact details. Yours or your agent's. A site nobody can reach through is decoration.
- Three credits. Not all of them. Three.
- A short bio. Two sentences is enough to start.
- Pick a design. Deliberately sixth. See the template catalog.
Six items, and a site with all six is a genuinely usable actor website. Everything else on the platform is an improvement on that foundation rather than part of it.
Design comes sixth on purpose
This is the one that surprises people, because choosing a look is the fun part and most builders put it first. But a design chosen against empty content is chosen against nothing. A template that looks superb with four gallery images and a reel can look sparse with none, and you cannot tell which is which until your material is in.
The checklist now knows when to stop
It disappears when the six are done. It does not convert into a permanent list of upsells, and it does not keep a progress bar at 94 percent forever because you have not connected an integration you do not want.
Anything optional lives in a separate Suggestions panel that you can dismiss.
Coming back to it
If you started a site and stopped, the checklist picks up where you left off and tells you what is missing. The most common gap by a wide margin is a contact route. The second is a reel.
